Style Philosophy

To me, style and fashion should be democratic.

Short, tall, fat, skinny, rich, poor - These are all labels we put on each other, but they should have no bearing on great style.

Like it or not, we are judged for our outward appearances, and we often make judgments of others on those appearances. Our styles are important because they send messages to others about who we are and how we feel about ourselves.

I'm obsessed with clothing and always have been.  Growing up, my family never had enough money for name brands and trendier fashion.  That forced me to get more creative with clothing and to find ways of getting the looks I wanted for less money.  I have more money now, but with five kids to support, I still have to be budget-conscious.

Whether your style budget is thrift stores and yard sales or Barney's and Saks, you can look and feel like a million bucks.

Fit is by far the most important ingredient for great style, in my opinion.  Being short AND curvy, clothing rarely fits off the rack.  Almost everything I wear has been altered in some way.

I get shirts hemmed, shoulder straps shortened, pants hemmed, shoulders taken in, sleeves slimmed and shortened, and the list goes on and on.  I even have to have petite sized clothing altered.  My advice is to find at least two tailors who you trust so that you always have a go-to person.

All that tailoring does add up, I admit, so I constantly look for the best bargains on clothing purchases to help offset the cost.  I am a firm believer that it is better to have four or five great fitting outfits than to have overflowing closets of ill-fitting garments.  Shopping and altering should be within your means, but fit should always be in mind.

A great fitting outfit can make you feel more attractive, more confident, sexier, maybe even a little smarter.  When you feel confident, you walk taller, look better, and show the real you - making you VERY STYLISH!!!!
